Frederick Veterinary Center, is a full service AAHA Accredited Companion Animal Hospital located in Frederick, Maryland.
At Frederick Veterinary Center we strive to offer not only sound advice, but also optimal veterinary care, thus allowing you the enjoyment of your companion for a maximum number of years. Our job is not only to treat your pet when he or she isn’t feeling well, but also to help you learn how to keep your best friend happy and healthy!

Dr. Youssef
owner/D.V.M.
Dr. Reda(Ricky) Youssef graduated from the Cairo University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. He joined the American Medical Association Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) and completed his practical examination at Oklahoma State University, obtaining his Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine in 2010.
Currently, Dr. Youssef resides as the Chief of Staff at Padonia Veterinary Hospital located in the heart of Cockeysville, MD. Since his start in 2013, the facility was awarded Neighborhood FAVE by Next Door for several years including the past 5 years and they continue to provide quality care at an affordable price for their community

As a lifetime member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, and the D.C. Academy of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Youssef enjoys every aspect of Veterinary Medicine. However, he holds a special interest in internal medicine, surgery and geriatric medicine.
He and his wife Mary, share three amazing “two-legged” children; Yostina, his oldest daughter and his two sons Mark and Mathew. They are also the proud parents of two “four-legged” children; Nemo the Maine Coon Cat and Daisy the West Highland Terrier.
Dr. Youssef is now proud to announce his newest title as the owner of Frederick Veterinary Center. He is not only excited, but he is committed to leading his new found home and becoming a part of the Frederick community. With a big heart to help and donate his time, Dr. Youssef enjoys performing surgeries for rescues and shelters – from the Animal Welfare Society of Howard County to BARCS at Small Animal Miracles. He plans to continue this passion in Frederick County.
When he is not working, Ricky enjoys spending time with his family and his big church community, which is located near Frederick. While his family began to search for their forever home closer to Frederick area church, he fell in love with Frederick Veterinary Center after getting to know Dr. Flynn.
Ricky also loves spending his free time playing table tennis and soccer. He often travels to watch his favorite team in the premier league, and loves both watching and coaching his two sons,’ Mark and Matthew, in their soccer league.
Dr. Pooya

Dr. Pooya returned to MD, where he was born & raised, following 16 years of continued education & training across the nation, including nearly six years of post-doctorate specialty surgical training. In addition to performing surgery, his training also involved the process of seeing surgical appointments, performing surgical consultations for other veterinarians as well as follow-up visits postoperatively to help ensure the desired surgical outcome and optimal benefits for your pet.
Dr. Pooya

Dr. Pooya returned to MD, where he was born & raised, following 16 years of continued education & training across the nation, including nearly six years of post-doctorate specialty surgical training. In addition to performing surgery, his training also involved the process of seeing surgical appointments, performing surgical consultations for other veterinarians as well as follow-up visits postoperatively to help ensure the desired surgical outcome and optimal benefits for your pet.
Having graduated from the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine as a member of Phi Zeta (the National Veterinary Honor Society) in 1999, he then completed a small animal internship at Cornell University’s Hospital for Animals and a one-year surgical internship at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Jacksonville, FL.
He has authored numerous publications in various veterinary journals, many of which have been presented at international surgical conferences.
The bulk of this work stemmed from the orthopedic fellowship he completed at the J.D. Wheat Veterinary Orthopedic Laboratory at U.C. Davis in CA.
Dr. Pooya obtained 30 months of surgical residency training at both U.C. Davis (one day per week) and a large specialty referral practice in nearby San Leandro, CA.
Dr. Pooya lives in Frederick with his wife and son, two hermit crabs, a royal python, an axolotl and their Tibetan spaniel. Dr. Pooya enjoys camping, hiking, playing pickleball and is an avid shooter of crossbows and air rifles (mainly in his indoor shooting range). During his training to become a veterinarian, Dr. Pooya worked as a sous chef at two restaurants in the Boston area and makes over 100 flavors of cheesecakes.
Dr. Flynn (Retired)

Dr. John Flynn has been practicing at Frederick Veterinary Center LLC for over 25 years. He received his D.V.M. degree from Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Before coming to Frederick, Dr. Flynn was in rural mixed veterinary practice in Tranquility, New Jersey and then in Large Animal practice in Union Springs, Upstate New York.

Dr. John Flynn has been practicing at Frederick Veterinary Center LLC for over 25 years. He received his D.V.M. degree from Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Before coming to Frederick, Dr. Flynn was in rural mixed veterinary practice in Tranquility, New Jersey and then in Large Animal practice in Union Springs, Upstate New York.
He is a member of the AVMA, Maryland VMA, American Animal Hospital Association, and Western Maryland VMA. His special interests in veterinary practice include the human-animal bond, preventive medicine, and veterinary public health issues. Dr. Flynn lives in Frederick with his wife Barbara and their cat Pushkin. After completing college, their daughters Jessica and Meredith live in Washington, D.C. and Jacksonville, Florida respectively.
Dr. Flynn’s outside interests include forestry, history, agriculture, environmental issues and reading. Frederick Veterinary Center LLC is an AAHA Accredited Veterinary Hospital and was the recipient of a 2014 Frederick County Waste Reduction and Recycling Award. A big fan of downtown Frederick and also of rural life in Frederick County, you may find him each year as a veterinary volunteer at the Great Frederick Fair Birthing Center.
Kathy
Practice Manager/Receptionist
Kathy joined FVC in August 2023 as a part-time receptionist. She is a long time Frederick City resident but was raised in the Florida Keys. She loves spending time with her rescued Doberman “Elton”, friends and family. When not working she enjoys biking, hiking and spending time on the water kayaking or canoeing.
Joshua
Vet Tech
Joshua grew up mostly overseas as the son of a foreign service officer. He has lived on almost every continent except Australia and Asia. Living overseas, he has been around and taken care of all sorts of animals, ranging from turkeys, chickens and parrots to guinea pigs, horses, dogs and cats. Joshua graduated from Cape Cod Community College in Massachusetts, his home state, with an associate degree in business and marketing. He moved to Virginia in 2005 where he started as a veterinary receptionist and soon moved to working as an unlicensed veterinary technician and has been for the last 19 years. Joshua has almost completed the veterinary technician licensure program at Northern Virginia Community College, which we are excited for. On his days off, he is an avid hiker and disc golfer, with his long-time fur companion Lancelot, his Australian Shepherd. His hobbies include welding art, target shooting and watching stand-up comedy.
Karen
Receptionist
Karen is a retired from massage therapy of 12 years.
She enjoyed helping people but is ready for new adventures in a different career field. She joined the FVC team in January 2024. Karen loves animals and has had many different kinds over the years. Everything from fish, ferrets, cats, and dogs. Currently my “shadow” is my 17yr Silky Terrier named Biscuit. I rescued him from the Carroll County Humane Society when he was two years old. When I’m not training for a long-distance race I enjoy traveling with my husband and Biscuit.
Emily Willis
Vet Tech
Emily was born in Texas but grew up in Urbana and has been working in the animal industry since 2016. She is now currently enrolled in Penn Foster Vet Tech program to become a certified Vet Tech. She has a 4-year-old Pitbull, Basset hound mix named Cheddar that is her best Friend. When she is not working, you can catch her watching any NHL game that is on #GoCap!
