Take steps to protect postal workers and other unexpected guests from dog bites This week is National Dog Bite Prevention Week, which focuses on educating people about preventing dog bites. Did you know that dog bites of postal workers increased 14% from 2014 to 2015, to a total of 6,549? Postal, delivery and utility workers are at higher risk of dog bites because their jobs require them to enter your dog’s territory.
Help protect these workers from dog bites by posting signs so they know you have a dog, and if you know one is coming, put your dog in an area where it can feel safe and can’t reach these unexpected visitors to bite.
Visit the AVMA’s website to learn more about dog bite prevention and access tools to help educate others so we can all work together to prevent dog bites.
